Behind the Credentials

Learn more about Carol’s areas of study and expertise and how they come together to improve your whole-health care experience:

ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER

An Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an experienced and highly educated Registered Nurse who manages the complete clinical care for their patient, not only a specific condition. ANPs are educated at the Master’s level and are assessed as competent in this level of practice.

ANPs are clinical leaders with a level of practice characterized by autonomous decision-making thorough assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, including caring for patients with complex multi-dimensional health challenges. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, ANPs can work in or across all clinical settings dependent upon their area of expertise.

CERTIFIED NURSE-MIDWIFE

A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is a midwife who exceeds the International Confederation of Midwives essential competencies for a midwife and is also an advanced practice registered nurse having completed registered nursing and midwifery education.

In addition to performing routine gynecological care for women of all ages, CNMs also provide care during preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and peri- or post-menopause.

While the conventional model of care tends to focus on managing problems and complications through the use of routine care and technological interventions, the midwifery model of care focuses on:

  • Health, wellness, and prevention

  • Labor and birth as a normal, physiological process

  • Minimal interventions

  • Personalized care
